An intriguing and nice music video from renowned Australian musician Ben Lee for his single Song for the Divine Mother of the Universe, in collaboration with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Australia. It’s a story of a monkey returning to earth after 65 years in space.

Forget the boycott, join the carrotmob.

Carrotmob is a type of consumer activism in which businesses compete at how socially responsible they can be, and then a network of consumers spends money to support whichever business makes the strongest offer. We harness consumer power to make it possible for the most socially-responsible business practices to also be the most profitable choices. It’s the opposite of a boycott.

No impact man

Finally I’ve read No impact man. I especially liked the part where Colin Beavan – the No impact man – talks about the progress of our society and its products, since the Industrial Revolution. He says that perhaps we are at a point of diminishing capital gain. That we’ve reached the point that using more products will dissatisfy us. And perhaps we can use the urge for progress in other ways, as Colin states it beautifully:

I simply feel that now that we’ve so utterly perfected the walkie-talkie to the point where it has become the iPhone, maybe we could turn the great minds that brought us the Nintendo Wii to, say, getting fresh water to the 1 billion people on our planet who don’t have it.

It’s Earth Hour Day. Turn off your lights for one hour at 8.30pm (local time) as symbols of hope and to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

From www.earthhour.org:

People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet. It’s Showtime! Show the world what can be done.

Excellent video about the known universe. It makes me realize that we’re only minor actors on a gigantic stage. A greater stage than we can imagine. It really places all in perspective. We are just a dot in space. It’s almost haughty and inappropriate to assume that we are the only life form there is…

One of the diamonds of our planet: the Cave of the Crystals in Naica, Mexico. It’s really stunning and breathtaking. Watching this video makes me humble and awe-struck with the beauty of Mother Earth.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Happy Winter Solstice – Here Comes The Sun

Meet me in the lobby

My bad, I was barking up the wrong tree. I found the real Executive branch, patiently waiting in the lobby. Who said no one cares about our future?

Where’s the change?

The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (Denmark) has come to an end. But what about the earth? This conference was about changing the future, I thought. But no change at all. Only talking and no acting. Again.

All those Obamas of the world are messing around with my world. I miss the real skills of leadership, of taking action and responsibility. What will they tell their family at Christmas dinner about their trip to Copenhagen?

But we all have our responsibility in this. We choose our own leaders, we create our own world. How would we all look back on this in 40 years? We did not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. What will we tell them?
